So many references to my family and childhood in this one. Several houses in my neighborhood growing up had widow’s walks. My mom explained to me that the small, fenced in area atop the houses was reserved for wives who were waiting for their husbands to come home from sea. The cameo in this piece rePresents those women who dutifully waited in anticipation for their love to come home and the crazy lace agate conjures an aerial view of distant seas.
By coincidence, the tall ship my grandma came to the states on in 1917 was called the Cameo. She spent 50 days coasting from the Cape Verde Islands to New Bedford, Massachusetts.
I hope someone out there can connect with this piece as much as I do.
Cameo set in sterling silver bezel, stacked on top of crazy lace agate. 17” total length. Handmade sterling silver chain and clasp
